Ruatuna - Ohiwa Harbour - New Zealand
A project we commissioned for ourselves! The idea being to create a modern straw built show home that people could come and visit, and even stay overnight. The home features load-bearing straw construction, solar powered hot water & underfloor, and loads more design features.

" Great Experience. Couldnt wish for a better opportunity to try before you buy. Gets you thinking outside the square"
Ruth & Gav (Devonport)

Nick & Maria's House - North Carolina - USA
Nick and Maria’s straw built home was designed to maximize a challenging site and make the most of the majestic views. The home features sophisticated interior styling, and provides excellent comfort in an often demanding climate. Sustainable Structures led the building team as well as the concept and design

" It was a pleasure working with Sustainable Structures in designing our house.
They knew better what we wanted, than we did!"

Bentford Estate - Lake Rotoiti - New Zealand
Bentford Estate is the ultimate in sustainable living. It is a fully self-sufficient straw built addition, with an impressive macrocarpa board and batten upper level.

" We love the wide window ledges, and the warm and friendly feel that only a straw built home has.
Straw's huge sound-proof qualities were also a bonus, especially for our five rooster, who still live on five years later!
We just love our home"

Bruce & Lisa's - Hawkes Bay - New Zealand
One of the best examples of a self-built straw bale home that we've been involved with. We helped out initially with the design & detailing, but then left the rest up to owners Bruce and Lisa, who over 3 years of after-hours work, completed their stunning home.

" Sustainable Structures helped us create a house of difference, style and warmth.
But most important of all, a place that really feels like home"

Kel & Vickies - Napier - New Zealand
Kel and Vickie’s simple straw built home demonstrates that quality can be achieved as a first home. Sustainable Structures developed concepts and designs; the owners took part in the building process.

" There's snow on the hills, and a cold wind blowing outside, but there's no need to light the fire this morning.
You've got to love straw built homes!"
