New Straw Bale Office/ Show Home

We've been busy in the last few months putting the finishing touches on the plans for our new straw bale office/ show home - called Ruatuna.

In a nutshell – Ruatuna is going to be a show-home with a difference! It will demonstrate sustainable building practices and cutting-edge design and products, all in a modern timeless manner. And, it will allow people the luxury of experiencing its unique built-environment for more than is the norm of a cursory saunter through a standard show-home. Those people interested will have the chance to stay overnight, and ‘live’ in the show-home, getting to experience first-hand, its special features, benefits and style.

Building consent for the load-bearing construction system has recently been granted, and construction is expected to commence in late May.

The roof with its undulating profile (using over 750 custom cut-to-length rafters) will be stunning when complete!

Construction on the project is being headed up by Dave Murray - from our newly formed sister company - Straw Built Homes.

- We recently achieved building consent for another straw built project here in the central north island. Once again within a record 2 weeks! It is located in Te Awamutu, and construction is planned to commence in Late June.

Other new projects we are currently busy with in the office, include a new beach house up near Whitianga -
in the Coromandel, as well as a new Pool-house/ Games room down in New Plymouth.
